Trivet by Oliver Tanner
What is a trivet? We all had to look it up. It is basically a widget the protects your nice expensive table when you place a hot pot or pan onto it. Trivets come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and materials, such as wood, metal, or silicone. Some are more functional while others are more decorative.
Oliver's trivet is functional and sculptural. It looks abstract, without a clear sense of purpose or scale. The challenge was to show what this object is for, as well as showing its artistic potential. It was fortunate that Oliver provided 3 pieces for me to work with, in aluminium and in bronze.
