Sculptures by Rainer Schlueter (2)

Slender monoliths are a common favorite, like a perfect block, an obelisk, or a 3D primitive. Heavy, solid, commanding materials, skill and inspiration are some associations that come to mind. Representing them in 2D can be challenging though. The observer is removed from experiential nuances, inspecting fine details from every angle, knowing a sense of scale, and ambiance. These two monoliths are heavy, solid and cold. The steel bases are corroded and smell of iron. As a duo the set induces symmetries, visually and with dimorphism. The gravity creates a sense of persistence.
